Drawing for Animation (Second Year)

These are quick sketches I did
in lesson practising posing, looking
back at these earlier sketches, I can
see my progress with speed sketches
 and accuracy.

This is a drawing I did when looking at the drawing our life model sitting, looking at this picture I needed to get better at legs and proportion. On the right, my struggle with the legs proportions is more clear however, bellow the proportions have improved in comparison.

One week I had to use
a more permanent media for these drawings I used sharpie and pen, the one on the left I had to draw with both my hands at once. On the right I had to do a sequence like an animation of six poses, some I like better than others however I can see my improvement compared to the first year. Below on the right is a continuous line drawing I had to do for a short sketch exercise.
The drawing on the left is a rubber drawing
I did use graphite to build the background layer as a mid-tone then adding and taking away with charcoal and an eraser during life drawing.

In Lesson drawings

Below are my studies of Animals, Human bones, muscle and movement.

 Bone Studies
Bone studies looking at the skeleton and a human skull to start of the study.

Bone study of the hand, I thought this would be a good study to do for learning about its movement and the parts that make up the hand, for example, the phalanges that make up the finger bones, metacarpal and metacarpus which are the base bones.

Muscle Study

A quick sketch of the male torso muscles with a mini side drawing of the top torso muscle.

Study of the arms muscles looking at what makes up the arm. Doing this study was interesting as I didn't realise how many tendons and muscles were in the arm alone, I liked drawing the muscles overlapping seeing how they all intertwine with each other.

For Body parts in movement one part, I decided to do was the neck as I had never really gone into studying the neck muscles before and as it is how our head moves I thought it would be a good thing to look at.

As a quick sketch, I decided to draw a man running focusing on how the muscles move when pushing the body into movement.

As a muscle study to pair with the movement one I decided to do a muscle study of the leg, focusing on the foot and knee. There were many details in this muscle study I took my time to get the muscles in the right place and to make it as accurate to the reference image as possible, and overall I'm very happy with how it looks.

     Movement Study

Another drawing for my movement study I looked at the legs, this drawing is of the back of the legs showing the stretch of the muscles during the motion particularly near the bottom of the leg.

This is a study of the female hips in movement I thought it would be good to draw a female as I usually draw men for my own work as I've gotten comfortable drawing them. I found drawing the breasts difficult as this angle from the reference, however, I found it a good experience to draw a female body to take me out of my comfort zone.

Another movement study, looking at the arm which focused a lot of detail on the elbow seeing how the muscles/tendons worked with the ligaments.

The spine was one of my other body part movement studies in this drawing I focused on the direction of the spine and how it affects the rest of the back.
I decided to do a long pose, spending more time on the lighting and shading.

Animal Movements/Studies

Animal locomotion or in movement I found this study interesting seeing how the cat moves, I included a cat skull study as a link to the anatomy study.

For animals, in motion, I wanted to do comparisons between smaller animals vs larger ones, for the larger one I went with an elephant. I liked the animal locomotion drawings as I draw people more than animals so it was fun to try something different.
For the smaller animal, I chose a deer as they spread their limbs when they run and in contrast to an elephant running the body movements are very different.

Animal locomotion of a horse running.

An animal study, focusing on shading giving myself a short amount of time to draw a detailed drawing of a wolf.

Quick sketch of the female body
A mini-study of perspective drawing a building, I struggled with this as this was my first time doing a perspective building drawing in detail however, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Shaded sketch of a dagger from one from my favourite film Mortal Instruments as an object drawing study.

A mini charcoal sketch of werewolf eyes from a show.

A shaded portrait drawing sketch.
